Goals & Time Frame of Goals

The purpose of this association is to help promote the sport fishery on Lake Superior's south shore.

  • Protecting the fishery from unlawful and or excessive commercial netting.
Establish a working relationship with the KBIC, and get them to allow us to ride along with them when picking up nets, to educate our members that they are no threat to the fishery. Done by Time Frame: 10/01/03

  • Insure planting of fish to maintain and develop the Lake Superior south shore fishery.
Explore a way to have higher survivability when fish are released.  Have a plan in place for the year 2004 season.

  • Developing a liaison with state and federal fishery management agencies, to insure the maintenance and growth of the Lake Superior south shore fishery.
Work with the KBIC to possibly plant more fish in our area and ask the DNR to do a better creel estimate.  Done by 10/03

  • Setting standards of conduct to insure the integrity & quality of our area
    fishermen.
    Included in SSFA bylaws.

  • Acting as a mechanism of education and information between area fishermen.
Supply a speaker at each membership meeting and to also post educational data on our web site.

  • Taking legal action, if needed to accomplish the above goals.
Within the first year we need to get the backing of the Marquette City commission and the Marquette county commission.

  • Insuring adequate financing and membership to accomplish the above goals.
Goal of 100 sustained members by 10/03
