2007 looks like another good year for South Shore Fishing Association.
We are still waiting to hear if our funding from the KBIC
will come thru to finish the fish cleaning station. We should be able to
tell the members at the membership meeting in December if we have the money.
If the money does not come thru we will need to get a little creative in
raising the balance of the money. We would be able to come up with another
$6,000 from our 07 tournament.
The board of directors has George Madison coming to the December
12th 06 meeting at Whalstroms at 7:00 to talk about spawning beds on the
Dead River. If we are able to secure KBIC funding for the fish cleaning
station we would be able to use our 07 tournament money to make a riffle
(spawning bed). We will talk about this at length in the next year to make
sure we have to correct location. The dam at the Tourist Park will be
decided on in Jan. and that will help us in our quest to find a location.
Our tournament went off without a hitch this year. We had
great weather and raised $6000 as projected. We had a great team on shore
and our hats go off to all of them. Next year our suggestion will be that we
ask the teams to pick their own biggest fish to put on the scale. This
will speed things along and all the other tournaments do just that.
Net penning again will be done by SSFA and the DNR says the
program is covered into the future for us. This year should have shown a
return from our first year but the flood put a hamper on that. But with that
happening we are still seeing a good catch of Salmon this past year. We are
very optimistic about the future of net penning.
South Shore Fishing will be guided by a 7 person board in
2007 and 2008 we will need a totally new board as it will be a second year
for all 7 board members.
